There are so many different colors and styles of sofas to choose from that it can be overwhelming in trying to find the right one for our home. Here are some tips to help you make the right choice.
Test before purchasing. Sample different types of sofas – Are the cushions comfortable? Does the color/pattern match the room it will be going in? Are there enough space for you and/or guests? Will it fit through the doorway and into the room? Will you fit if you tried to stretch out on it?
Search for a decent frame and don’t settle for anything less. If a couch is higher in price but has a nicer frame, it may just be worth the extra money. Try to find one with a lifetime guarantee so you’ll be covered in case an issue arises. Solid hardwood frames are great; stay wary, however, of purchasing ones with particleboard or metal construction.
Inspect the cushions. If they’re feather cushions, they will need to be plumped on a regular basis. Foam and fiber fillings have a tendency to flatten and become disfigured over time. When together, however, the feather aspect provides comfort while the foam provides structure. A great option is finding a piece that has feather cushions on the back and foam/fiber cushions in the seats.
- Find the fabric you love. This can affect the entire look of the room it will be going in. Make sure you find one that goes well with the theme of the room. If you have pets, you may want to invest in covers to prevent stains and/or pet dander from getting onto the sofa.
